As the soot, dirt, and ash rained down,
We became one color.
As we carried each other down the stairs of burning buildings,
As we carried each other down the stairs of burning buildings,
We became one class.
As we lit candles of hope-waiting
We became one generation.
As firefighters and police officers fought their way into the inferno
We became one gender.
As we fell to our knees in prayer,
We became one faith.
As we whispered words of encouragement,
We spoke one language.
As we gave our blood in lines a mile long,
We became one body.
As we mourned together the innocence lost
We became one family.
As we cried tears of grief and loss
We became one soul.
As we retell with pride-of the sacrifice of heros
We become one people.
We are
One color
One class
One generation
One gender
One faith
One language
One body
One family
One soul
One people
We are One.
We are United.
We are America.
I can't think of a more appropriate day to remind you all how much I love and appreciate each and every one of you. Tell somebody you love them today, you never know when you'll have the chance to do it again. I would like to thank this magical city for adopting me as one of its own. Today and eveyday, I am proud to be an American and even prouder to be a new yorker.

But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one"-John Lennon, Imagine, 1971
